Physical (PQ)

Physical Quotient (PQ) focuses on Physical Health and Well-Being, Including Motor Skills and Overall Fitness. While academics and emotional intelligence are essential, a child’s physical health and well-being lay the groundwork for a thriving future.

Here at ONE Intervention Centre, we believe in nurturing the whole child.  This page delves into the importance of PQ and how we can create a foundation for lifelong health.

What is PQ About?

PQ focuses on a child’s physical health and overall fitness. It encompasses two key areas:

  • Motor Skills: This refers to the ability to plan and coordinate movements. It includes:
    • gross motor skills (large muscle movements like walking, running, and jumping)
    • fine motor skills (smaller movements like grasping objects, writing, and buttoning clothes).
  • Overall Fitness: This refers to a child’s endurance, strength, and flexibility. It’s important for maintaining a healthy weight, preventing injuries, and having the energy to participate in daily activities.
Overall fitness refers to a child’s physical endurance, strength, and flexibility. It’s essential for maintaining a healthy weight, preventing injuries, and having the energy to participate in daily activities.
  • Endurance: This refers to a child’s ability to sustain physical activity for an extended period, like running or swimming, without getting tired or winded. Good endurance allows children to maintain energy levels throughout daily activities like playing or walking for extended periods.
  • Strength: This refers to a child’s ability to overcome resistance, such as lifting weights or pushing objects. Good strength helps children complete daily tasks like carrying objects or climbing stairs.
  • Flexibility: This refers to the range of motion in a child’s joints, allowing them to bend or stretch their bodies. Good flexibility can improve a child’s performance in physical activities and reduce the risk of injuries.

Why is PQ Important?

Strong PQ benefits children in numerous ways:

  • Improved Physical Development: Good PQ supports healthy growth and development of the musculoskeletal system.
  • Enhanced Coordination: Developed motor skills allow children to participate in activities with confidence and navigate their environment safely.
  • Increased Confidence: Being fit and skilled in movement boosts a child’s self-esteem and sense of accomplishment.
  • Healthy Habits: Developing a love for activity early on sets the foundation for a healthy lifestyle in the future.
Developing a strong PQ is a continuous journey. By creating a fun and engaging environment that encourages movement and healthy habits, we can help your child build a strong foundation for health and lifelong well-being.
