Remember ONE Intervention’s goldfish adventure?
When some of our students brought home the goldfish from our early intervention session, we thought that the little critters would find their new home in a plastic tank. And that would be the end of the story, right?
Well, we were completely wrong!
Over the weekend, our teachers received some truly remarkable messages from parents. You’d never guess what they told us!

Five Star Hotel For Our Fishy Friends!

“We ended up with 2 fish tanks,” a resigned parent texted us.
Sure enough, the attached photos showed two shiny, well-decorated tanks displayed proudly in their home. But that wasn’t all—the student had added more colourful fish so their goldfish could have friends!
The tanks weren’t just functional, they were a work of art. Lush green plants added vibrance, while smooth pebbles lined the bottom, creating a chic and fancy home for their little swimmers.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comfort rating for our fishy friends? 5/5!
Fine Dining For The Fishes!

Moreover, that’s not the only one. To our surprise, another parent updated us on how our fishy friends are doing.
We got a lovely picture of the fish being well-fed with a stalk of fresh green vegetables. Bon appetit!
“I happened to have some veggies at home, I think it would be better to calm them down,” the parent texted.
Well-fed and well-cared for, the fish certainly seemed to be enjoying their all-you-can-eat buffet! 🥬🐟
Can Fishes Fly?

So, we’ve all heard of the saying, ‘When pigs will fly’, but what about fish?
According to the parents, one daring little fish attempted to leap out of its tank—perhaps in search of adventure?
Unfortunately, our intrepid explorer did not manage to survive the journey. 😢
Rest in peace, little fish.
Fortunately, the parent also reported, “There are still a few fishes alive. 😄”
The attached photo showed a comfortable tank with bright grass and rocks for the fish. We’re sure that the rest of the fish will enjoy swimming around in classy comfort.
Play-based Learning In Early Intervention
When we first introduced this simple science lesson, we never expected it to have such a lasting impact!
Some parents even started researching proper fish care—buying new aquariums, fresh fish food, and bright decorations to create the best environment for their aquatic pets.
Good for them!

At ONE Intervention Centre, that’s exactly why play-based learning is a key part of early intervention.
Learning doesn’t just happen in a classroom—it happens everywhere, at any time.

The Takeaways
Take this lesson for example: By bringing home the fish from our early intervention programme and caring for them, families are now introducing ONE’s students to responsibility and curiosity.
Learning Responsibility Through Play

Kids can help out with feeding the fish and even cleaning their tanks. Doing so, they learn how to be accountable and finish tasks that are important.
And if kids have other tasks as well, then they’ll learn how to prioritise and make time for the really important things first.
This encourages them to take responsibility. Furthermore, they develop a sense of empathy for other living things. All of this just from helping to take care of a small pet!
Keeping a Curious Mind

Additionally, researching the ideal fish food and tank environment encourages children to question things even outside of class. Neither of these are in their academic syllabus, but they are undoubtedly useful in taking care of their fish.
This develops in the children a keen sense of curiosity which can inspire their learning in the future.
So yes, parents, we wholly encourage you to let your little ones help out in taking care of their little fishy friends.
Our Early Intervention Programme

ONE Intervention Centre’s early intervention programme also places great emphasis on the importance of familial presence in your child’s journey.
We’re collaborators first, and teachers second.
This means that we’re going to be with you every step of the way in the early intervention – at school, at home and in life. This goldfish lesson proves it: Learning doesn’t stop in just the classroom.
At ONE, we emphasise focused learning by involving the whole family in our early intervention. We believe in giving the parents of our students regular updates. We do face-to-face meetings, video calls, and yes! Even text messages, just like the ones we quoted above.
You’re never alone in this journey. We got you here.
